Message Notes

Review

  • 2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV), “by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature,…”

History: Serving other gods

  • Genesis 11:30 (NKJV), “But Sarai was barren; she had no child. And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there.

  • Joshua 24:2 (NKJV), “And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods.

Abraham believes.

  • Genesis 12:1 (NKJV), “Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.”

  • Acts 7:3-4 (NKJV), “and said to him, ‘Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.’ 4 Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And from there, when his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.

Abraham doubts.

  • Genesis 12:10-12 (NKJV), “Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. 12 Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.

Abraham believes again.

  • Genesis 14:19-20 (NKJV), “And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.”

  • Genesis 15:6 (NKJV), “And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. [God puts His righteousness in Abraham’s account]

Responses/Reflections:

  • Thank You, God, for Your mercy and patience with my humanity.

  • Help me to be a partaker of the divine nature – to be led by and empowered by the Holy Spirit to help others live a life you have planned for them.

Join Us In Prayer

  • Consider someone you may find challenging to pray for with love as Christ loves them. Pray for that person and acknowledge them in your prayer as a child of God. Open your heart to being softened by the compassion of the Holy Spirit." (Philippians 2:5, Matthew 18:1-5)
