Message Notes

The Bible is the story of human history and God’s work in it. God inspired 40 writers over 1500 years to write the Bible. The most significant event in human history is the prophetic birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Holy Scriptures point us to Jesus and teach us how to be saved by believing in Him.

The Bible itself is a book of books. It comprises 66 books or documents of which 39 were written before Jesus was born (Old Testament), and 26 were written after Jesus died, resurrected and ascended to heaven (New Testament). There are as many as 53 Messianic prophecies. Amazingly, Jesus fulfilled them all in His earthly ministry.

2 Timothy 3:15-16 (NIRV) “15 You have known the Holy Scriptures ever since you were a little child. They are able to teach you how to be saved by believing in Christ Jesus. 16 God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right.”

John 5:39-40 (MSG) “You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.”

REFLECTION

  1. In your own spiritual journey, when did you encounter the need to be saved by Jesus?

  2. Since the Bible is so important to Christian living what are you doing to build it into your life?

  3. What is the true purpose for Bible study?
